Deaths at Chinese Coal Mines Down 24 Percent in 2013

Mineweb reported that in 2013, deaths at Chinese coal mines fell by 24 percent, to 1,049 dead or missing. Late last year, the nation’s State Administration of Work Safety said that it plans to make coal mines safer moving forward.

As quoted in the market news:

The agency also observed that industry reports for 2012 said more than 1,300 people died in mining accidents in China, but the figures do not include missing miners, according to the Associated Press.

In 2011, 1,970 people killed in 1,200 mining accidents, the government said.
