Nickel – Bloomberg reported that First Quantum Minerals Ltd. believes the 10% levy that the Zambia government has imposed on nickel exports will threaten its newest mine and wants it waived.
Cobalt – Tanzanian exploration specialists are kicking off a nickel- and cobalt-focused spin off aimed at tapping China and India's growing demand for resources in Eastern Africa.
Manganese – The small African nation’s vast reserves of the metal could see it overtake South Africa for the top spot within four years.
Oil – Bloomberg reported that Goodluck Jonathan, the president of Nigeria, received a report that indicates that over the last ten years the country may have lost $37 billion or more in revenue due to underpayments for oil. Jonathan plans to launch an investigation to get to the bottom of the matter.
