Gold – Cosigo Resources (TSXV:CSG) released an update for its Colombian Machado Project. Cosigo has been granted a forestry reserve subtraction by the Colombian Ministry of Environment. The granting of the subtraction enables the company to move forward in preparation for its 9,973 initial drilling program at the Machado Project.
Rare Earth – One of the largest undeveloped REE resources in the world is currently under environmental review. If given the go ahead, this near-term project has the potential to have a profound effect on the REE market.
Magnesium – Companies including Rolls-Royce and Black & Decker have agreed to pay upwards of $1.1 million for magnesium waste clean up at the now-closed Remacor hazardous materials processing site.
Nickel – Bloomberg reported that Norilsk Nickel (MCX:GMKN), the world's largest nickel miner and reportedly the biggest contributor to sulphur-dioxide pollution, is planning to initiate the first stage of a facility aimed at reducing these emissions in 2016.
Uranium – Uranium miners in the United States are grappling with environmental safety concerns.
Oil – A European firm focused on renewable energy is asking serious questions about the manner in which we derive our energy. With the opening of a pilot plant aimed at producing microbial oil from waste, is the time right to shift toward “greener” energy sources?
Rare Earth – CNET reported on the rare earth extraction process, commenting that Molycorp Inc. (NYSE:MCP) is developing a more environmentally-friendly way to remove the minerals from the ground. China is also in the midst of stepping up its environmental regulations for rare earth mining, and this action from Molycorp may prompt it to do so more quickly.
Rare Earth – As focus once again shifts to China’s clampdown on rare earth, many within the sector feel that the country is moving in the right direction.
Coal – China is demanding more clean energy. Clean coal offers one solution to its energy and environmental priorities, but it is questionable how soon these facilities will become common place. Recent agreements for clean coal facilities suggest they are making real strides, but is clean coal really a priority?
