Weaker US retail sales and consumer sentiment raised doubts about the strength of the country’s economic recovery this week, while General Electric made a big move to expand its oil and gas unit.
Gold – The gold price was off to the races again this week, climbing on healthier stock markets and good news out of the European Central Bank.
Gold – Gold fell more than $33 per ounce on the day as investors look for liquidity to raise capital in light of the Japanese disaster. The increasing fears of a full nuclear meltdown and the crash of the Japanese markets which lost 14 percent on the day, have attributed to investors seeking safe heaven currencies.
Copper – Copper settled at a 27-month high Tuesday, buoyed by expectations that the Federal Open Market Committee will approve a second round or quantitative easing.
Gold – The Wall Street Journal reports that U.S. economic data and a stronger dollar weighed on Comex gold prices.
