Although the company made headlines last month due to controversy and delays surrounding its massive Platreef project, Ivanhoe has now received final approval for its mining right from South Africa's Department of Mineral Resources.

Friedland’s Platreef Project Gets Final Approval for Development

Platinum – After nearly a month of controversy surrounding protests by some community members against Ivanhoe Mines's (TSX:IVN) Platreef Project in South Africa, Ivanhoe announced today that the Department of Mineral Resources has given final approval for the mining right for the project. Site work has been idled at the project since May 26 pending final approval of the mining right. The company is now working quickly to continue construction at Platreef.

Construction Delays Reported at Robert Friedland’s South Africa Platinum Mine

Platinum – Ivanhoe Mines (TSX:IVN), lead by billionaire Robert Friedland, has run into delays in construction of its $1.6 billion Platreef mine, according to Bloomberg. The news outlet reported that the roadblock is due to a disagreement between the miner and South Africa's mines ministry regarding benefits of the mine to local communities.
