Uranium – This week, the Virginia General Assembly will take up proposed legislation to end the state's 31-year moratorium on uranium mining permits in what is expected to be a tight vote.
Uranium – Bloomberg Businessweek reported that the Coal and Energy Commission is meeting today with its subcommittee on uranium mining as well as Uranium Working Group members, who recently submitted a report on uranium industry issues to Republican Governor Bob McDonnell. The report is aimed at helping Virginia lawmakers decide whether to lift the state's 30-year moratorium on uranium mining.
Gas – Martine Ouellet, part of Quebec's new Parti Quebecois government, has openly stated her opposition to shale gas development in the province.
Gas – Bloomberg reported that South Africa has lifted its moratorium on the exploration of shale gas, natural gas that forms from being trapped in shale formations. The country banned hydraulic fracturing last year in order to study its environmental implications.
