TSX Recovers After NDP’s Alberta Win Sparks Energy Sector Concerns

Oil – The NDP's victory in Alberta's provincial election caused the TSX to drop on Wednesday as energy stocks took a hit. Specifically, the S&P/TSX Composite index dropped 0.99 percent, or 150.05 points, to close at 15,023.89 points. The dip marked a one-month low and put seven out of 10 of the main sectors on the index in the red.

Gas – The new fracking rules unveiled by the US federal government last week have already caused quite a stir. Two industry groups reportedly filed a lawsuit within minutes of the announcement.

Encana to Sell East Texas Properties for $530 Million

Gas – Encana Corporation (TSX:ECA,NYSE:ECA) announced that its 100% owned subsidiary, Encana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc., has reached an agreement with an undisclosed purchaser to sell, for approximately $530 million, several properties located primarily in Leon and Robertson counties of East Texas. The sale is expected to close in the second quarter of 2014, and will be subject to normal closing conditions.
